Political Risk Advisory: Russia – October 2021

“In September of this year, Russia held their legislative elections, where 450 seats of the State Duma (the Russian parliament) were at stake. Putin’s United Russia party won 49.8% of the seats, which is surprisingly lower than it was in 2016 (54.2%). Here we have yet another Russian election marred by claims of “voter fraud” and “ballot stuffing”. No one should really be surprised by this; fraud and corruption are a constant in all Russian elections and should now be expected. However, it did surprise many that Putin’s party received less of a majority than it did a few years ago”.
